Closed on New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Lewis and Clark Fun Facts

  • They saw their first buffalo when they hit the Kansas River around July 4, 1804

  • The1792 Springfield musket fired 3 rounds per minute

  • Sergeants wore a red sash and have one red epaulette on their right shoulder

  • The sashes were used to carry the wounded off the field

  • Fort Belle Fontaine was where they spent their first and last days on the river

  • Sacagawea was reunited with her brother on the trip

  • The flag was rolled not folded

  • The expedition discovered 178 new plants and 122 new species of animals

  • They traveled almost 8000 miles

  • The song Chester by William Billings was considered the “national anthem” of the time.

  • They encountered over 50 indian tribes

  • The flag had 15 stars and 15 stripes

  • The uniform of Captain Lewis had silver trim and buttons and the uniform of Captain Clark had gold trim and buttons
